At a meeting held on Thursday night 15th Tammuz 5765 (21st July 2005) between Dayan B Rapoport on behalf of the Beth Din and the great sage HaGaon Rabbi Y S Eliashiv, the latter stated very clearly (in the presence of distinguished Rabbonim) that despite his personal view to refrain from eating Kingklip, the Johannesburg Beth Din can rely on other great Halachic authorities and may continue stating that it is kosher, but it shouldn’t be considered Mehadrin.
